La Leche League of South Bend

There are a few times slots open to help: The St. Joseph County 4H Fair is coming up and every year the St. Joseph County Breastfeeding Coalition puts up a "Lactation Station" so nursing mothers have a nice, clean place to put their feet up and relax while they feed their babies. We are looking for volunteers to sit at the table and show the mothers where they may nurse. Click on the google doc below for more details and to sign up. The Lactation Station at ArtBeat today, 8/16/14 will be on Michigan St. between Washington and Colfax, on the east side of the street.  ArtBeat is opem from noon to 8 pm.  Come say hello!

What do you love about wearing your baby or toddler? What type of carrier have you always wanted to try? Is there a tricky back or side carry you need demonstrated? At the next La Leche League meeting some of the more experienced babywearers in our group will be ready to demonstrate and assist. Bring your carriers and try ours! We'll have ring slings, pouches, Mobys, woven wraps, Ergos, and more. Of course we always have space for your breastfeeding questions, concerns, and successes. If you are coming out to the fair this week be sure to visit the lactation station.  It will be open noon to 8 daily.  There is also a diaper changing table available to all mothers.

The Women's Expo at the Century Center is this weekend--tonight and tomorrow. The St. Joe Cty. Breastfeeding Coalition and Memorial Hospital are joining to sponsor a breastfeeding area, which was approved by the event organizers. Sadly, the lactation consultant/ nurse who is setting it up right now is getting questioned about the need for this and the "appropriateness" of nursing in public. We're hoping that some nursing moms can go down and utilize this booth this weekend to show how discreet and lovely and necessary a booth like this is. In order to continue offering this service at other events, it's important that we have a good showing here. Thanks so much!!!
