Many of the big kids are back in school, so it's time for the Mamas and wee ones to reclaim the parks! Come on out for the 1st Tuesday of the month La Leche League playgroup at Parkovash Park between 10 and noon next Tuesday. I hope you'll enjoy some informal chat time for Mamas and play time for kiddos. No baby is too young for a mama to benefit from a playgroup! This week we are going to talk about birth and early days with baby. How did your birth experience(s) affect breastfeeding? What would you change if you could? What would you recommend to other mothers? And what about the early days after your baby was born--what surprised you? What do wish you would have known? How can we advocate for the best kind of support for our new families? Bring ideas of local resources, supportive ears, and open minds as we come together to share our perspectives on these powerful topics. What do you love about wearing your baby or toddler? What type of carrier have you always wanted to try? Is there a tricky back or side carry you need demonstrated? At the next La Leche League meeting some of the more experienced babywearers in our group will be ready to demonstrate and assist. Bring your carriers and try ours! We'll have ring slings, pouches, Mobys, woven wraps, Ergos, and more. Of course we always have space for your breastfeeding questions, concerns, and successes. The Saint Joseph County Lactation Station at ArtBeat will be located on Washington Street along the former College Football Hall of Fame. we will be at the NW area of the former Football Hall of Fame. Come stop by to say hello, change a diaper or nurse your baby.

Come join us Tuesday evening 8/13/13 at 7 pm, River Park Branch library for a discussion on "Working and Breastfeeding".  All mothers work whether through taking care of your baby or through employment outside the home.  For mothers with separation from baby, there are challenges in pumping and storing milk.  For those staying home, there are challenges in how to manage an entire day with baby.  If you are experienced or new to breastfeeding, come share your thoughts, fears and encouragement.  Of course your baby is most welcome!
